Smoking Cigarettes Helps in Preventing Parkinson Disease

Smoking Cigarettes
About a decade ago researchers discovered that smokers were 60% less likely to develop Parkinson's disease. This disease represents a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system and is quite spread among aged human. Recently a team of Israeli researchers have uncovered the genetic mechanism that protects smokers from this unsettling condition.

The researchers conducted genetic testing on blood samples from 677 Parkinson's patients, 438 of whom were never smokers and 239 who are currently are or had been smokers in some during a period of their life. Preliminary results indicated a link between nicotine dependence and a protective mechanism against the disease. This is reflected in the fact that a cluster of genes known as CHRNB5, CHRNB4 and CHRNB3 became more dependent on nicotine and also held back the development of Parkinson's. This discovery contributes to the perception of the mechanism in nicotine that protects against damage to the brain chemical dopamine, which is linked to the appearance of disease in the first place. While there is no doubt that smoking is bad for your health, the finding allows for the detection of new approaches for Parkinson's therapies, such as medications that imitate the chemical impact of nicotine in human brain.

Smoking and Stress Relief

Cigarettes Smokes
Even though most people understand that smoking harms a person’s health, many smokers believe it avails them cope with stress. Since nicotine is a psychoactive, brain altering drug, tobacco use seems to accomplish the abstract effects of stress (frustration, anger, and anxiety) beneath severe level. This is because the nicotine in cigarettes reach the brain cells in alone 8 seconds, releasing a chemical, which is called dopamine. Dopamine causes smokers an initial sense of calm and well-being, and causes the human body to crave that sensation over and over again. This is part true and part illusion, because while one may feel an initial sense of calm when he smokes, the body is actually under a great deal of increased stress. In this case blood pressure and heart rate increase, muscles become tense, blood vessels constrict, and less oxygen is available to the brain and body to facilitate salubrious coping. Smoking additionally leads to ineffective coping, as the causes of the initial feelings of stress are still present – smoking transmute the situation just for a diminutive stress relieving action. May it is not be ideal to quit smoking in the middle of a very stressful time and smokers should wait until a relatively stress-free time to quit. The studies on stress relief and smoking cigarettes are still on the way and the opinions in this matter are still varying.

His exact quote was: “Here's the news: I am going to sue the Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company, manufacturers of Pall Mall cigarettes, for a billion bucks! Starting when I was only twelve years old, I have never chain-smoked anything but unfiltered Pall Malls. And for many years now, right on the package, Brown & Williamson have promised to kill me. But I am eighty-two. Thanks a lot, you dirty rats.”
